COMPANY OVERVIEW

Aurora Technologies based in Waltham, Massachusetts, designs and manufactures a wide range of host-resident networking products including -- terminal and print servers, high-speed terminal/communications servers, WAN synchronous and asynchronous communications controllers, and Internet connectivity products. These products offer users, VARs, and OEMs broad functionality and easy systems integration with highly competitive price/performance.

Aurora products are used for providing serial and WAN connectivity solutions for modem banking, Internet access, routing, and data feed handling. These solutions cover a range of industry applications in telecommunications, financial services, air traffic control, point-of-sale retailing, and even Karaoke services.

Aurora products conserve network resources. Data to and from the host system adds no traffic to the LAN. Packet coding and decoding of data are significantly reduced, conserving network and host system resources.

Aurora's newest products are the WANMultiServer 3000 and WANMultiServer 3500 multi-protocol, port-configurable WAN servers providing up to 64 high-speed WAN access ports for SPARC-based UNIX systems. Each WAN port is independently configurable, supporting a choice of protocol, baud rate, and synchronous or asynchronous mode. The WANMultiServer 3500 provides the added capability of software-selectable electrical interfaces.

With annual revenues of approximately $5 million, Aurora has achieved an average annual growth rate of 25% since inception. Current distribution channels leverage Aurora's status as a strategic level member of Sun Microsystems' Catalyst developer program. With worldwide distribution channels, Aurora's products are sold primarily through over 500 VARs in North America and leading distributors in Europe, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific. Approximately 25% of sales originate from Asia-Pacific.

All of Aurora's products are manufactured on-site with an experienced operations team subscribing to the most current quality, test, and order fulfillment standards. The members of the team have ASQC, APICS, and CPIM certification, plus a commitment to ISO 9000 manufacturing compliance. Over 95% of orders are shipped within 24 hours of receipt.

Every product is covered by a 1-year warranty, plus service maintenance contracts. Customer's technical questions are fielded by an experienced support staff dedicated to ensuring that customers worldwide are serviced with the highest quality, expertise, and respect.

THE AURORA DIFFERENCE

Aurora multiport serial connectivity solutions offer the best performance, reliability, and value in the industry. Each product is designed to provide maximum data throughput with minimal burden on the host CPU and network resources. Aurora host-resident solutions attach directly to a server or workstation on the network. The benefits of this approach are significant.

No added LAN traffic. Data to and from the host system adds no traffic to the LAN. Packet coding and decoding of data are significantly reduced, conserving network and host system resources.

Conservation of CPU resources. On-board intelligence, oversized data buffers, and on-board hardware and software flow control off-load the host system of processing requirements.

Honest throughput ratings. Aurora conservatively rates the throughput of its products. Maximum throughput listed is based on all lines simultaneously driven, full duplex. Some competitors base their ratings on the maximum speed through one port, half duplex. Don't be fooled.

Maintain system security. Aurora products take full advantage of the security software of the host system. There are no additional security systems to install, configure, and maintain, and no potential conflicts between the host and network security software.

Unmatched configuration flexibility. Aurora offers the broadest selection of physical and electrical interfaces. Each port is software configurable for baud rate, data bits, stop/start bits, and parity. WAN connectivity products provide port-selectable synchronous or asynchronous data transmission and multi-protocol support.

Lower cost per port. High performance, unmatched reliability, and low cost; it's a combination that is hard to beat. Our cost per port is as much as 80% lower than Ethernet-based solutions and comparable to or lower than other serial solutions.

COMMON FEATURES OF ALL AURORA CONTROLLERS AND SERVERS

All serial connectivity solutions are not created equal. Compare before you buy. The following features are standard on Aurora products:

On-board RISC processors, up to 10 MIPs per four-port increment, off-load communications processing from the host CPU, preserving valuable system resources.

Full modem support is provided on all serial ports.

On-board hardware and software flow control processing provides immediate response to device requests, without host-system intervention, minimizing CPU overhead.

Large dual-ported data buffers, provided on most products, treat all data as if it were mission critical by protecting against lost data and maintaining consistent throughput on all lines.

Easier to use and administer. Aurora products install in minutes instead of hours or days. Configuration is accomplished using straightforward UNIX administration tools. Hardware diagnostic tools, provided with every product, simplify problem detection.
